Education

We support the educational services by combining sports, music, arts and recreation with our educational mentoring programmes as stated in the SMART principle. Our latest phase of activities include support for all young people including disadvantaged, disaffected and particularly gifted young people from all ethnic groups, which includes those with learning difficulties.

Every Child Matters: Change for Children is a new approach to the well-being of children and young people from birth to age 19.

The programme places better outcomes for children firmly at the centre of all policies and approaches involving children's services. These outcomes are:

  • Be healthy
  • Stay safe
  • Enjoy and achieve through learning
  • Make a positive contribution to society
  • Achieve economic well-being

The programme demands that all organisations that provide services to children work together in more integrated and effective ways. The report highlighted a need for improved integration and accountability across children's services.

In 2003, the Government published a green paper called Every Child Matters alongside its formal response to Lord Laming's report. The green paper prompted an unprecedented debate about services for children, young people and families. There was a wide consultation with people working in children's services, and with parents, children and young people.

"It is vital that every youngster has the chance to fulfil their potential, regardless of background. We need to help schools and others to reach out to young people who are not taking part."
David Blunkett

We have a strict policy which involves all our staff being CRB checked. We believe in the safety of all our children, with regards to being safe and healthy for future development.

Supplementary Schools Programme

Walter Tull Multiple Heritage Supplementary School is a school that supports young people in mainstream school to help raise the achievement of multiple heritage young people in Bristol at Key Stages 2, 3 and 4 as a rolling programme.

The school helps to meet the needs of the students, academic and pastoral, through our transition programme.

This transition is an important stepping stone in the lives of young people in Year 6 and we aim to assist them in making a happy and successful move from primary to secondary school.

Walter Tull teachers deliver daily lessons in Maths, English and Science (core subjects). Walter Tull specialist pastoral teachers provide guidance and support in the classroom throughout the programme and also deliver workshops in Art Therapy, Sport, Music, Cultural Studies, Racism etc.

All staff are CRB-checked for child protection purposes.

The Supplementary School is based at The Park, Daventry Road, Knowle, Bristol BS4 1DQ.

The Open Day, for parents and other interested parties, will be held on Saturday 17th November from 10am – 1pm. Everyone is welcome.
